Hey Steph. I bought a Tascam 424 MKII off the classified ads on Harmony-Central. I called the guy and talked to him first and I only paid $225 and shipping fees. If you shop around you can get a good deal. Also check you local music stores. They sell 4 tracks all the time, and the people bring them back and trade them in on bigger units. They sell the trade-ins at a good price. Beware when dealing on the Internet. You can get scammed. Use good judgement.
I have my TASCAM 414 and I love it. Is my fist multitrack but it is really complete to be US$300 (in the US)In Chile (where I live) they cost about US$550.
But I´d recomend you to safe a little more and buy a second hand MD multi track like sony or yamaha. I learned in this site they are heaven compared to the cassete based multitrack.
