Tascam Porta One - Motor is always running.

Hi.

I have just bought a Tascam One yesterday, which appears to have never been used!. It is absolutely mint condition.

It came with a hard carrying case and carrying strap.

I have plugged it in and everything works great, but the motor is always running, even when the tape is stopped (or removed).

Is it supposed to do this? Should it not stop running if there is no tape?

No, the deck operates fine. However, when you do not have the tape deck in operation, I can still hear a motor turning. None of the mechanics are moving when this happens.

Mine would act like it was not done rewinding.
The lever that checks tape tension was gummed up.
[If I am remembering my decks properly. I've have many].
