Tascam 246 - Mic/line impedance

Guys -
Per my previous posts, I recently got a Tascam 246 and sorted out a horrible headphone amp buzz issue. I want to now record with my various Shure SM57/58 mics for which I have standard XLR cables. The 246 only has 1/4" inputs. Not sure if these are high or low impedance inputs...

My question:

Do I just need something simple like this...
Livewire XLR Female - 1/4" Adapter | Guitar Center

Or do I need to buy an XLR to 1/4" adapter with an impedance transformer like this...(250 - 50k Ohms)
Livewire XLR(F) - 1/4" Impedance Transformer | Guitar Center

What is the purpose of the second adapter...to plug a mic into a guitar amp?

Thank you!
Brian

You want the second one. The mic inputs on the 246 are a high impedance unbalanced mic amp. by getting the second adapter, which has a transformer in it, your mic cable run will be balanced and it will match the impedance at the input. Does that make sense or help?

I figured that's what I needed but I'm glad to get your "input". ;)

I'll give it a shot and will report back.

Thanks Sweetbeats!
