hey,
i own a 388 and i'm looking to do a split cd with my friend. i normally use 457 tape but theres seem to be a lack of it at the moment (i live in the uk). i know yr meant ot use 1mil tape on the 388 but i want this recording to have good sound. would it be best to use 407 or GP9 tape?
thanx

I'm not sure if GP9 comes in 1 mil as well but nevertheless you'd most probably have to have your 388 biased for this tape specifically. I personally would not use GP9 for the 388. There are 3 tapes that work well (all 1 mil): Quantegy 457, 407 and Maxell UD 35-90 or UD 35-90B.

Here's a sealed Maxell UD 35-90 currently on (UK) eBay:
