Taking an MD421N apart and its sound characteristics

Does anyone know how to remove the grill from an MD421N? Mine's dented and I want to see if I can do something about it.

And I wonder why it has so much less bass than the two MD421-U-4s that I received today (I was like: "OMG, So THIS is how an MD421 is supposed to sound like!" Much better).
Yes, I'm aware of the bass roll-off switch on the "N". With no bass roll-off it kind of sounds like the U-4 with the switch in the third of the 5 positions.

An MD421N is not supposed to sound so bass-shy, right? Or is it?
