Synth/keyboard recommendations - new wave/80s

Hi guys, hope this question isn't too dumb - I'm feeling a bit out of my depth!

Basically, I'm forming a new band where I'm planning on moving from guitar/vocals to synth/vocals, although the synth parts are mainly one-finger drone notes, melody lines to accompany guitar lines, that kind of thing. I need a synth that:

* Is pretty portable/compact
* Has reasonable drawbar organ/piano sounds, generally more realistic sounding pads and strings than daft rave squelches and dogs barking etc
* Is around £200-£300 to buy new or second hand
* Can be as new or old as you like as long as it's reliable.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've used a MicroKorg but all the sounds are too contemporary and gimmicky to fit with the style of the band, which is kind of sparse, post-rock/gothic/new wave kind of thing.

Would really appreciate your help!

My goodness, that looks incredible! Without sounding old, how technology has come on in the past few years! Thanks for the link, chap.
