sync rolands not recording

I have two roland recorders. one is vs88o-ex (master), two vs880 (slave). I've hooked them up and configured them according to the manual. Both are receiving input from the tascam m-512 mixer 1-4 on master and 5-8 on slave. I key rec & play on the slave then rec & play on master. The master records 1-4 but the slave indicators never stop flashing and the time count doesn't actuate. Where am I missing the boat?

Do you have the MMC set up correctly? If so, you shouldn't have to hit play or record on the slave. The master will transmit those msgs via MIDI. If you hold down FFWD on the master, the slave should move forward as well. If this isn't happening, is the MIDI light on the slave flashing? Time to check over the manual again.

Tascam ???

If I 'm reading it well your Tascam is also a master & slave.
Only one tool can be master in this configuration.
