I'm building a tiny little setup on a budget. I have my ESP playing thru a zoom g3. I then have a vst for my bass and using ezdrummer. Now im trying to build a cost effective solution for vocals. I was thinking a mxl990 into a mixer but I was also thinking a presonus bluetube dp preamp what do ya think?

you want to spend double the mic cost on a preamp?
Definitely don't bother - you would be much better off getting a higher quality microphone and no preamp.

For example, an mxl990 is about £80 and the presonus bluetube is about £150 - so £230 total budget.
Why not get an AT4040 for £238 instead? (found this price here although admittedly have never heard of them before!)
or a Rode NT1-A for £150, or NT2-A for £230 to name a few.

Get a better mic, don't bother with the preamp, you will get a better end result.
