strings samples?

Any recommendations on a good quality sample bank CD of strings/orchestral stuff that doesn't cost an arm AND a leg (actually I'd rather give up the leg, so I could still play my guitar!). I know there are tons of them, but I'm not looking to buy a $500 multigigabyte collection that all of the TV composers use. Right now, I'm using a crappy soundfont collection with LiveSynthPro, but I'm looking to check out some other formats (I can use WAV, AIFF, SoundFont 2.0, and Akai).

You might want to try the Peter Siedlaczek's Advanced Orchestra series. You can start with what you need and add more later.
