Straight forward preamp choices

Im after a preamp to go straight into a DAW. The criteria is as follows:

£250-£300 max to spend.
Must have insert point (or a compressor)
Full channel strip facilities not needed
Main criteria is best clarity/gain ratio
(I dont think any coloration of the signal would be any good at this price range?Im not in the market for a Neve... :P or Great River)
Mic is a SE2200A
Only one channel needed!

Any ideas? I have a couple in mind, but Id like to see what gets thrown out here first. I know im at the low end of the budget and there is no really right or wrong answer for this amount of ££... just like to hear some opinions!

Thanks

If you're talking standalone preamp, they don't really need an insert since there is nothing to insert before (EQ, etc.). So you just take the output the pre into your compressor or whatever. The exception would a box that was more than just a preamp, for example it was a channel strip or had a converter or something.
