i have purchased on ebay several ampex 456 1/2 inch tapes on metal reels . upon trying to record i find out that they are all sticky !! and the otari mx-5050mk3-4 just stops moving at about 1/4 of the way in .
can sticky tapes be cured and used again ? if so ! what is the cure ?

Save the reels, throw away the tape. Or send them back.. You got robbed, maybe not intentionally, but you did get ripped. Paypal has a 45 day window for claims.

Nothing you can do to make them useful for recording. If they had material of yours on them you could bake and transfer, but recording on top of sticky tape is useless.

Check the sticky shed syndrome thread on this forum. It's a sticky.

PS, this should be in the analog forum

No, you cannot fix sticky shed tapes for reuse. "Baking" tape is to make them stable long enough to get previously recorded material transferred to good tape or a digital format. Contact the seller and arrange for return and refund.
