Start Up suggestions please!

Hi there,

I am brand new to the home recording game and was looking for a bit of advice on starting up.

I have a £600 ish budget to buy a suitable:

-laptop/PC
-Audio-Interface
-DAW

I'd like to be able to Mic all my drums to record at once so was looking for something with at least 8 inputs and outputs (more would be better). Basically I was hoping to record my drums so that each mic recorded into its own channel in my DAW. I already have a set of mics to get started which I can update in future.

It's not just drums I'm looking to record though. I'm hoping to record the full band once my drums are down.

Any advice on a good starting set up which I could buy for that amount?

Scott

Do you have more budget for other things, like monitors, for example?

For a DAW, I'd suggest Reaper - free to download the full version, $60 to register it.
Interface - the least expensive new AI with at least 8 mic preamps is the Tascam US160x08: https://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_16x08.htm - that's almost half your budget. Not sure what you can get for computers in the UK, but I'd recommend a desktop (cheaper than laptop), with at least 6G of RAM.
