Star Trek: The Musical

Has this been done already? If not, we oughta. All we need is some songs and a plot - it practically writes itself. And, given that it's (a) a musical and (b) Star Trek, the plot doesn't have to be much. Or we could take an episode --- City on the Edge of Forever or one of the Harry Mudd episodes would be great musical fodder.

I'm picturing a "red-shirt chorus" as the voice of good, and a "Klingon Chorus" as the voice of evil (we could switch to the Borg if we wanna include Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager), sorta the way the old Greek morality plays worked. Roddenberry borrowed heavily from them anyhow.

Kirk. Would, Have. To. Sing. Like. This. Of. Course. Scotty could have a drinking song, Bones would HAVE to do a "He's dead, Jim" song, Uhura could do a little something from Porgy & Bess...

Who's with me???

Spock could do a logic song in the style of gilbert and sullivan and a group number called "Our shields are Dropping!" on the bridge which makes use of some swivelling chair choreography.

I like the chair choreography idea.

Apparently my concept is not new - Mad mag had a Star Trek Musical issue, and there's THIS list of potential songs. They even mention a Redshirt Chorus.

Must. Start. Being. More. Original. Uhura, open a channel to my agent...

:(

Do you remember the MAD musical version of The Posiedon Adventure? It was called The Poopsidedown adventure. Years later when I figured out the joke in the title I slapped my forehead head like pglewis.

I like the Gilbert & Sullivan angle a lot. How about Kirk singing

"I am the very model of a modern starfleet captain"

not enough sylables though. Or how about kirk doing the bit about "I never break the prime directive."

Chourus: "what never?"

Kirk; "No, neve."

Chourus: "what neveeeeeer"

Kirk: "Well, hardly ever!"

(Actually in the end he was promoted to admeral... so there's yer extra sylables)

And then a couple of years after it has finished on broadway, "Star Trek: The Musical 2" can be release, just need to change the planet they go to and the crew member that dies :D

Thank link was priceless!!

I like the first. :D Hmm... HMS Pinnafore and USS Enterprise has the same amount of syllables... I do not think that Gilbert and Sullivan got a mention in the Goofiest songwriter thread but they belong there.

That's BRILLIANT Tanlith!

I gotta try one. I'm going for a full verse.

I am the very model of a modern starfleet ad-mir-al
I set phasers for stun & if stun doesn't work I set for kill
My ship, my crew, the galaxy, the planet Earth, all I have saved
& all throughout the galaxy I've bedded down with solar babes

I've battle guys with fur & giant bugs & guys covered in scales
& if they should demote me I'll go back in time & save some whales
I kick the Klingons in the pants & then broker a truce with them
(....truce with them, oh dear....ah yes, I have it...)
My vulcan friends are logical so I don't have much use for them

In matters astronomical, political & tactical
I am the very model of a modern starfleet ad-mir-al
