Ssssssibilance

Hey i was just wondering if anyone has any good "remedies" for copious amounts of sibilance.

Most of my vocal tracks seem to have heaps, and its almost unbearable when listening in head phones (someone told me cos the small cone speakers or something).

anyway - i'm looking for an inexpensive solution -

btw, i already use a pop filter.

a pop filter will do nothing for sibilance.

what is your recording chain right now?

suggestions:

*change mics (try a dynamic or ribbon)

*angle the mic so that if is not straight on to the mouth

*try a deesser

De-essing in what part of the process?

I was just thinking about when to de-ess?

Like, is it advisable/favorable to use a De-esser during tracking? Or is it better after it's printed?

Or does it really mater when in the chain it is used?

I would assume it's better after the fact because anything that is recorded cannot be changed once it is to tape. Before using a desser try the ideas that littledog had.

littledog,

I use a Rode NT1000 through a behringer mixer into Cool edit pro.

can a de-esser be in the form of a plug in for, say cool edit?? or is it a seperate unit?

thanks

cool edit pro2.0............or the newest one if that's not the name of it...........has a multiband compressor which will do the same thing as a de esser

Firstly the NT1000 is a fairly bright mic.

Secondly....

1. What sound card are you using?

2. How close are you to the mic?

3. Are you using any eq when recording?

4. How are you connecting the output of your mixer into your soundcard?

5. Do you have a compressor?

6. Do you have inserts points or direct outs on your Behringer mixer?
