Soundcard for Location Recording

So I've ordered a new Macbook and am gonna use it for location recordings.

I need to buy a soundcard to go with it. Just wondering what you guys would suggest. Here's the spec I want:

8 Channels in with mic preamps
Phantom power
Firewire/USB
Must be portable
Cost less than £400

I'm really attracted to the Firewire Saffire Pro but have heard people have had lots of issues with it.

Any other suggestions?

see what a motu 828mk2 costs or I have a MOTU 896HD dunno what you could fetch one for over the pond, but I paid about $900 CAD for it a few years back, so it would probably be around your price point. It's rack mount (for 8ins with pres, I don't think you'll find anything that's smaller) it's firewire, works great with my g5 and macbook pro. I use it all the time for stage shows.

MOTU 8pre sounds ideal for you.

You can get them from soundslive.co.uk or dolphinmusic.co.uk, dv247.com and probably others too.
