Sound proofing a room

egg cartons ... no good for soundproofing ...
they have marginal acoustic absorption properties but are incomplete in the frequencies they absorb, so they actually do more harm than good. It's possible that they may diffuse some sound, but my opinion is that egg cartons are too flimsy to do that effectively.
