I'm interested in becoming a sound man when I'm not recording. Is there a web site that teach you some basic stuff? Thanks.

True that. 'Tis true with just about anything. You can read all you want about it, but all you need is to DO it. Get out there and get experience. All you need is the equipment to get it started,
 
I think you have to know a little bit (if by reading) before doing it.
