I am purchasing a new PC system for home recording, and for internet, word, etc.... I will be purchasing a sound card (gadget labs, or something similar). Do I need a "SoundBlaster" type / generic sound card in addition?

Thanks!

Is that Busby or Bugs? Sorry got a friend named Bugs.

As far as my knowledge will let me go Don't buy a generic. You will want a different sound card than what comes stock. Most of them are for the consumer and not for the result that you are looking for.

BUsby...

Yes, but since I will already be purchasing a dedicated high end sound card (gadget labs)for digital recording, do I have to purchase an additional card - i.e. similar to what most stock systems include?

if you want to play games or something.. you'll need a sound card with a general MIDI wavetable on it. Pretty much all quality recording cards leave that OFF, because it's full of low quality 1985 sounds and unnecessary. But games dont store threir own samples.. they use midi. SO you need a MIDI equipped card to play games.
