I like those two albums as well, but they have very different production that the other Sonic Youth stuff, which is decidedly 'lo-fi' for the most part. From what I gather a lot of their stuff was recorded on prosumer reel-to-reel 8 tracks. Just goes to show that you don't need great equipment to make great records.
