ok ive got sonar3 producer eddition( and love it) but one thing i can figure out is when ever they show pictures in magazines or anything they always show a track of music with a line that bends up and down across it. I think its some sort of volume monitering system but i have no idea what it really is and how to get to it. Please help
 
I think you are talking about automation envelopes. The curves are graphic profiles of controls such volume or panning that the user has automated.

You can record these by using automation recording for a given control or take an automation snapshot and adjust manually.
 
Yeah, envelopes are sweet! :)
You can also just right-click on the track display and select the Envelopes -> Create Track Envelope to create one. Besides being able to create envelopes for the basic stuff like Volume and Pan, it's extra-cool because you can also create them for a lot of plug-in effects (I believe all of the Cakewalk-provided FX package effects at least). Good times... :D
