soliciting opinions on next mic to buy

Suppose you had a measly mic collection that looked like this:

- (1) Shure 57
- (1) Shure 58
- (1) crappy Peavey dynamic
- (1) Apex LDC
- (1) set of drum kit mics (kick drum mic, clip on tom mics, etc.)

If this was what you had at your disposal, what would you say are the biggest "holes" in the capabilities? In other words, if you could choose only ONE more mic, and your budget was $300, what would you choose to get the most utility?

Assume that the use will be to record a predominantly "plugged in" rock band by layering one track at a time--in other words, the same mics are available for guitar amps, drums, vocals, etc.

Many thanks,
Matt Dee

SM7...I know...it's a boring, standard answer, but you'll never be sorry for buying. It's great on vocals, acoustic guitar, guitar cabinets, drums...you name it.

Okay, this web site is broken. I'd suggest the CAD M9. If it's the only thing in the body of your content this frigging BBS changes it to Cad m9. AAAAARGH.

CAD M9.
