Soft drums tutorial?

I finally got my basic rig working and the interface came with a bunch of plugins and such, some of which were drum-oriented stuff. One was BFD, which wouldn't install properly, another was a collection of MIDI drum grooves and a third was a whole gang of samples. I've pretty much either MIDI'd in a track via my Roland kit or used a *gasp* real drummer/percussionist. But now this possibility of getting drums exactly the way I want them is intriguing. Trouble is, I grew up in an analog world and I've got no steeenking idea how to use this pile of samples 'n' grooves and a BFD that doesn't work, etc.

Can anybody point me at a "digital audio workstation drums for senile old morons" tutorial? I think I'm gaining on it but I'd like to get back to making music again ASAP.
