sm58 beta vs beta 87a

i am looking to get one of these mics USED for male vocals and
i can buy the 58 beta for $90
or the 87a for $150

I think its a good deal and not sure which one I should take
I don't mind investing the extra 60 bucks if there is a considerable difference in the quality of the 87a

Which is the betta deal?
 
Funny I was just A/B ing the two of them last night for a friend of mine wants to purchase the three beta 87s I have.
I wanted to be able to tell him exactly the difference for he uses the beta 58s now.

You will find that the 87 has a bit more of an out put and more oomph in the upper mid range /high end per it's patten presence boost. With out a proximity effect due to it's controlled low-frequency roll-off.
One thing you'll have to get use to is you have to be *right on* the 87 because of it's tight supercardioid pattern. Also the 87 with require phantom power as the 58 will not.

The 58 is a great microphone as well.

I'm letting mine go to my friend for $100. each in like new condition, you should look around the net for for a beta price/deal.
