Slow down recording

What's the best way to slow down a digital recording whilst preserving the audio quality?

I don't need the pitch to stay the same, and I've tried everything in my fave DAW Ableton Live with some degree of success...but am wondering if I do it better somehow?

Plugins? Some obvious thing I'm missing? What you think?

Cheers

What clock rate did you record it at? I've had success at clocking it while tracking at a high rate, and then changing the clock to a slower rate slows the recording down. This may only work it you have a master clock, and then you have your converters set to convert the sample rate internally.

I usually record at 96kHz 24 bit wherever possible - so you mean, play it back at a lower sample rate without converting?

can you bounce to a different pull-up sample rate? Not sure if you can do this at 96khz, but if you can up sample your files and then still play them back at 96khz it'll effectively slow down the speed..
