Skipping and audio drop out HELP!!!

well i have been using this program for about a year but now even tho i lock the tracks with the effects on them i get skipping like crazy. i just upgraded my computer put 2 gigs of ram in...changed buffer settings but no luck. PLEASE can someone give me idea im going crazy.

Are you recording to a dedicated fast (7200rpm) secondary audio drive??
You should.

One harddrive for OS and applications,
One harddrive for data and your music recording.

Also keep your drives defragmented.

yup i use my 2 external hard drives....one to store files and one to use for the temp. files in adobe.

How many tracks are you typically dealing with when the skipping happens? How long are the songs?

it used to be around like 27 tracks then skipping but i tried to record a band yesterday then after recording rough guitar i recorded the drums on 4 tracks at once and the freezing and lose of tracks started to happen.Songs tend to be 4-5 mins in the skipping area. it seems like the program itself is the problem...how much more can i improve my comp performance its getting frustrating

Are you using ASIO drivers?

What are your buffer settings? (Probably need to be raised...)

Only the latest (2.0) version, released last month, supports ASIO.

You mentioned external harddrives? Are these usb harddrives?
