Shortcuts not working...?

I use the Pro Tools LE system at one of our schools labs and on occasion I find that the normal shortcuts that I use (T for zoom in, R for zoom out, b for break, etc.) don't do anything. Is there something I need to enable to make sure these always work?

You have command focus turned off. Click on the "a...z" button at the top of the edit window.
