Shawn Lane vid - unbelievable!

Shit. His left hand is moving like a fucking sewing machine, and his right is barely moving.

I hate him.

Just another hack with to much delay/reverb and time on their hands to create a bunch of mind numbing noise.

If you like it, that's cool. To me, this stuff is downright boring....

But that's just me.

That guy was real talented. His track record showed it.
Don't recall anyone here having instruction videos or being interviewed for the magazines.

Even without the distortion and delay...that's a tough lick.

...just sayin'...

To say Shawn Lane was a hack is pretty ignorant, you need to look at his music - kind of a bizarre mix of folk/country/rock/shred/jazz and fussion. The link above is just to an instructional video to demonstrate speed and technique, not a composition. This guy was a way ahead of his time - he was playing crazy stuff in the 70's before the whole shred scene. Many of the top players in the world have cited Shawn Lane as being a major influence who was way ahead of the curve (Vai, Petrucci, Buckethead & Howe among others).

It's not a song, Einstein - it's a speed exercise.

Shawn Lane was an amazing player.

Metalhead, Lane is a master of speed and technique, and maybe a lot of people will critizice him for that. To all of them I'd like to recommend to watch this video. A marvelous trio in which lane played... the guitar solo is simply amazing. Enjoy:

PS: There's a nice bass solo too for all 4-string friends :)

Wow, I couldn't call him a hack by any means. It is unfortunate that so many of the shredder guitarists have such poor tastes in guitar tone though. I have to admit that was a lot of reverb and delay.

But wow, what a technical marvel that guy is. This video is the first I've ever heard of him or actually heard him play. What an intro!

I hadn't heard about him till I went to a club in town to see Black Oak Arkansas play and Shawn Lane was their lead guitarist. He was 15 years old at that time and was burning like crazy back then-he was sneeking a lot of Al Di Meola licks into the tunes constantly and really blew me away!

He was the lead guitarist for Black Oak? No wonder I dug that band!

Please, give this video a try, you won't regret... what a guitar solo!:

Rest in peace, Shawn.

You want improve?

Here you go - a guy with at least the chops of someone like Lane, but also an extremely well developed sense of articulation and composition:
