yesterday, I loaded some wav's into protools M-powered and played around with some mixing...after several hours of working and several save points, along with the autosaving that protools does on its own....the session crashed. I restarted protools and tried to load the session thinking that I could just reload from my last save point. Immediatly after the session loaded, it crashed again....I also cant load any of the automatic session backups....

anyone ever have this same problem??

well...that didnt seem to work either...I can start a new session and pull all the tracks in manually....again....but I cant get the original to open...this sucks because I spent a lot of time on it....

any other ideas??

thanks...

When you open the session, does it crash immediately? Or do you have to wait a few seconds/mess around with stuff?

If immediately, it sounds like a plugin might be f*cking something up. It might also be drivers for your hardware. Can you open other projects just fine?

wait, so Import Session Data worked? It brought all your tracks and audio in?
Then why do you need the original one still?

As he said he spent a lot of time on it, I'd imagine he's got a lot of plug-in's tweaked just so and whatnot. Just a guess :p

doing an import session data will bring EVERYTHING in...including plugins. If he can bring all the tracks in it probably would be safe to assume it was just a problem with the session file. But if he has issues importing the session data, it might be a plugin. Then he could import one track at a time and see which ones fail to import and try and remember which plugins were on those tracks....that would help narrow it down.

the import session data had the same results as opening the original session...when I said I can open a session and pull the files again manually, I mean just like I did the first time....Its a song I recorded with Adobe Audition...I loaded the .wav's into protools and mixed...then the session crashed...after the crash, I cant open the protools session or import session data into a new session...I can open a new session and drag and drop the files in again....but then I just have to start from scratch again...

but if its a plugin, then why cant I open one of the session backups...from when I first started the session and before I started adding plugins..

Wait... what happens when you try to import session data from the f*cked up session?

then that's the confusing part. especially if all other session work fine except this one. Usually when something like this occurs on only one single session, either the session file itself is corrupted (which can usually be circumvented by import session data) or a plugin is at fault.

did you try importing one tract at a time with import session data? To see if it's a track problem?

ok...I looked at it again this morning and I was able to import each track one at a time and all my plugins seem to have transferred just as they were...very strange....anyway...I imported everything and saved a copy of the session and we will see what happens this time....

thanks guys...

Ok...so I import the files and the session is back on right were I left it...the only thing is now, when I finish up what Im doing, I save the NEW session....and when I try to open it later....same thing...it crashes as soon as its loaded....

as much as I hate to do it...I may just format and re-install...

this is the computer that I mentioned to you guys a few weeks ago that I purchased locally and it had a cracked version of PT on it...I have since purchased PT from Guitardude here on the board along with his iLok and all...maybe a freshly installed OS will help things out a bit....

Yeah, any time you buy a used computer, you REALLY need to re-format right away. You never know what kind of sh*t the previous owner had on it (I've heard stories of horrible stuff like child porn and that sorta shit on used computers!)

Did you import each track one at a time into the new session and save after you imported each track? It many be one plugin on one track - worth a try before reformatting maybe

If I try importing every track at once, it crashes....if I import them 2 or 3 at a time, I can get the session to load. then I save the session and close it. Then try to re-open that session, and again it will crash....

Don't import more than 1 at a time, and save after each import. There hopefully be only one track that will have a corrupt plugin on it.

What plugins are you using on it? Anyone you may suspect are dodgy ie ones you didn't buy? Not accusing you, just asking btw. Might help narrow your search.

so you are saying import one track, save close and try to re-open. If that works, import the second track, save and try to re-open. Continue until I cant re-open? that will take some time...but I guess it should work....I still need to reformat and start fresh but let me give this a shot....
