What is the term called when a sequencer plays the metronome for an arbitary length of time, but starts recording the moment you begin to play ? The reason I ask is because the way I currently record, I find somewhere in the middle of the song to play, then I lay down the track and move it over once its in time. This method sucks, and I'd like to know what other ways I could go about recording.

Why not just start from the beginning and wait 8 clicks then start playing? you could delete this first part later. Then, when you wanted to lay down a track somewhere other than the start of a song, you can just move your time ruler to a spot 8 beats before the point where you want to start recording.

I thought of that shortly after I posted. Also someone else mentioned something called drop recording where you tell the sequencer to start recording at a specific point in time.
