SampleTank and Acid Pro Distortion

Hi everyone, I used to post on the analog forms mostly, been a long time and now I'm gone all digital like and I'm like a lost puppy, really.

Ok, so I'm using Acid Pro 7 and so far...

I've been able to lay down some test tracks using Amplitude.
I've been able to lay down (sort of) some midi tracks using EZdrummer.
I've been able to lay down some acoustic and vocals using a mic.

Now, I'm trying to record a track using various samples from SampleTank and I'm having trouble. First of all I can trigger the samples via my keyboard controller in real time, no problem, and I've gotten it set to where I can't detect any latency. Good so far..

However, when I hit record and start to play I all of a sudden get MAJOR distortion, a piano patch sounds like a stack of Marshals! I'm not clipping, even when I set the input to barely audible it still happens. Now when I play it back it sounds almost normal, no more distortion, but still some midi notes are missing.

Any suggestions for a true newbie. I'm VERY nontechnical when it comes to all this stuff so please keep that in mine when/if making suggestions.

Thanks much,
Edan
