room within a room ????

After getting lots of info from the internet I find myself confused which one is true?

"Walls can and should be built off the existing floor not the floating floor. "

or

"build the walls and ceiling using the new floor as a base."

chip,

I built my walls off the existing floor on the concrete slab in my garage. I did put down a rubber material along the entire length of the bottom plate, so the wall would not touch the concrete (this is something that I thought up, not in any of the books)

Then I built my floating floor inside the new room and it does not touch any of the walls.

DISCLAIMER: This is my first studio and I am still in construction, so I do not have any performance test of my resulting work. But a lot of my thinking and ideas came from F. Alton Everests books. (I think thats right) But I have made some mistakes already, but I am learning.

That's pretty bad when the disclaimer is longer than the reply. lol

i put the floating floor down first in my studio and built walls on top.
in my case i needed total isolation.if you put your walls up first, then float the floor with out letting it meet the walls, then you have a place where sound can escape.
all in all ,i think you will come out better putting the floor down first.

What sheppard said. I did what gator did at Left Bank but that was because the client changed his mind about the floor.
