it has grabbed my curiosity. any experience out there with this thing? I'm looking for a versatile distortion/pre-amp for guitar and this one seems to be reasonable and in my price range.

Hello from a fellow Santa Cruzite! My experience with Rocktron stuff has been I always expect it to have simply crushing insane gain, and it never does. Check out Harmony Central's user reviews, they usually give a pretty good picture.

I've actually played through one of these units.....like the name says the gain is pretty crazy, however, the clean tone is weak and incredibly soft in comparison to the distortion channel. I'm not a big fan of this, for the fact that the clean tone (at least on the one I played) sucked pretty bad.

it's interesting. the people that hate it do seem to be running it in to an amp like a distortion pedal and they want some crunch. I'm not quite looking for crunch. but the reviews are mixed.

mike: funny, the reviews by rocktron brag about the clean tone, which is always a sign that it is the weak point. this is a common strategy. thanks! I bet you're right....and actually the clean tone is important to me.
