I know the converters for the RME are good and the drivers are solid. What about the mic pres? I have three questions for those who own the FireFace 800 or, have used it in a session....
1. How do the mic pres compare (in terms of sound, gain and clarity) to other audio interfaces? Anything special about them that stands out?
2. How much CLEAN gain (in dB) is available in these mic pres? Will they easily run ribbon mics, an SM7 and other mics that need a lot of gain?
3. Thoughts on the instrument inputs? They have a built in limiter and tube-emulation. I'm curious how these sound and if they've added any real value to your recordings when going direct and/or using amp plug-ins?
If this has all been answered in another post please point me there. I've looked all over the RME web site so I'm not looking for specs here. I'm more interested in your real world experiences.
