RIP Freddie Gruber

This is sad news indeed. Freddie was a dear friend, and an incredible drummer. He played with Billie Holiday and he knew all the drumming greats. And he was one of them.
 
God bless you Freddie. You were a great drummer with a great style and you shared your expertise. (I'm an old jazzman and am very familiar with his playing). Another one of the great "old school" drummers has passed on. I will miss his spirit. I guess all we are going to have left are all of the over-drummed wallopers that try to impress with all speed, heavy hitting and no technique. Freddie had a lot of class.
