Resources for building cables?

I've heard many people talk about the relative ease and affordability of building your own cables. So I think I may try my hand at cabling up my own studio. But I have had trouble finding good instructions (like a free web article) and/or sources for materials. Any help? Thanks.

With these two links, and the parts from markertek I had everything i needed to make almost 50 patch cables and 4 20' mic cables. Go with the nice cable (mognami, monster...)
