renting equipment?

Heres my situation: i am recording my friends band, the vocals bass and guitars sound great recorded but my drum recording lets me down. I have a delta 44 but have only two channels of budget preamps (audiobuddy) meaing im limited when recording the drums.
I have found a music store that rents pro audio equipment so i am considering renting a DAV BG1, RE20 and 2 oktava 012's and buying a sm57 so i can get a good 4 mic drum set up.
Im just wanting opinions on renting, whether its really worth it etc

Well there's two ways to look at whether it's worth it. There's the immediate value (what it costs to rent vs what you're making on the project), and then there's the educational value of trying out higher end equipment and learning what that particular gear sounds like, and in general, what having that kind of equipment can add to your sound.
