Ok, I have a remote space that I want to use for recording vocals and guitars (and any other things that i can set up there.) Using an 8i6 USB as interface.
I have a ‘control room’ about 65ft away.
Daw/PC, multiple speakers, patch bays, power, Studio Live 18Ai mixer, Presonus Central Station, for speaker selection and talkback, 18i20 interface, in control room.
I am having a hell of a time getting this too work! What am I missing?
It seems after choosing interface in software, setting up in/outs for 8i6 (8 in 6 out) only using 2 mics and 2 guitar inputs, 4 outputs; 2 to local remote speakers and 2 back to control room (patch bay) via cable, I should be able to record 4 inputs into DAW, hear what is coming in from remote booth and pre-recorded track from DAW, and remote booth should hear what is coming out of DAW and what they are ‘adding’ as well as talkback from control room. I am confused as to what the USB actually contributes (and what it doesn’t) and if it is an issue of USB cable length (I am using a powered extender and getting sync from 8i6 at PC). Focusrite won’t commit that this will work.
Granted there are a lot of moveable parts and not having an assistant that can sit in the ‘booth’ makes for a trying and tedious experiment in futility. Any thoughts? Maybe I just need a hug! I am disappointed I can’t figure this out myself but maybe I need a pro studio engineer which I can neither afford or find in the boonies of SW Michigan. Simple feedback is welcome, general or specific – my head is spinning! Also point me to any other threads I may have missed on this sort of topic.
