relapping heads

Not sure what you are asking, but if your question is: Is it true that you cannot play back stuff that you recorded before the heads were re-lapped, after the heads get re-lapped?

The answer to that question is NO that is NOT true.
 
I'm not quite sure I understand what you are asking.

Are you wondering if stuff you record on heads before they are relapped can't be played back after they are relapped?

If that's what you are asking that's not true.

I suppose if the heads were REALLY bad before being relapped there may be some issues with frequency response on maybe edge tracks or something, but assuming the tape height adjustment with respect to the heads isn't significantly different, there shouldn't be any difference of any significance.
