Recording vocals thru MOTU828mki

anybody who uses the motu as a preamp maybe you can help me.

For some reason my MOTU will not pick up any sound coming from the mic(AT3035), I have an XLR cable going into the input 1 and the phantom power switched on, gain up, nothing. But it records from other equipment through those inputs. any guesses?

Only guess I have is a broken mic, but I just bought it brand new...
 
Anything new can still be broken.

If you can record using another phantom powered mic using the same cable, it's gotta be the mic; send it back....
 
I just thought of this...is it possible that the phantom power just doesnt work on my MOTU? My dynamic works fine. The only way I would have of testing this is to buy another condensor cuz I dont know anybody who has one. Maybe I can take my mic to guitar center and see if theyll test it for me

or could it be you need a certain type of cable to run phantom power? I have a XLRF to 1/4'' but the input on the motu is XLR, does that matter?

Anyone? Bueller...bueller...
