Recording studio and desk build...

So I have started setting up my first recording studio and building a desk for my gear. I am using a spare bedroom that is pretty small but have it painted and created some acoustics panels and working on the corner base traps. Here are some pictures of the panels and desk...

Thanks! Below is a pic of my current temporary set up. I can't wait to get my gear on the new desk! All the poison dart frogs tanks are going down stairs and I will hang acoustic panels on that wall to match the ones on the left. I am also planning a panel on either side of the wind too...

Oh, I was trying to go minimalist on the legs due to the small size of the room. If I used plywood for the sides and put shelves in it the thing would be massive and weigh a ton. Right now I will be able to remove the legs and separate hutch from the desk. I will be able to move it by myself. I still need to cut the center shelf for the hutch. I'll do that tomorrow and paint the frame black...

Well we went camping this weekend so I haven't worked on it. However I was thinking about gluing it on and using wooden dowels to add the strength. This would make the top top very clean but add lots of extra work trying to line everything up. However, because I do not have any support across the front I may countersink some holes so I can put screws through. Of course I will still add glue but this will require me to glue in small pieces of wood then sand them smooth before I dye the top. I may do it this way just for simplicity in assembly.

Yes it would be simple enough to do. I would just need to cut a couple pieces of plywood at an angle and glue them along the top edges then attach the rack rails to them... I have considered it. However I think the mixer may be pretty easy to use in the current configuration. I'll sit in front of the desk to see how much of a difference it will make..

I think it will be worth the added work.

What do you think would be a good lift hight? Maybe 3"? If I do that there is going to be an issue with cables hitting the bottom of the monitor shelf... Hmm

Any lift no matter how much would aid in using controls. Try it without any lift, if you ok with it then your good to go.

nice studio if i had the tools and the time ide build my own desk too and are them snakes in them tanks i have a rainbow boa and im about to buy the krk rokits 8

Hey Guys! Thanks for the nice comments! Here are a couple shots of the desk. It still needs some finishing work but it's almost there... :-)

Hey guys!! Here is an updated picture of the desk. I still need to attach the shelf for the monitor and glue together the hutch. However I couldn't wait to get it mocked up.. :-) Sorry about the bad phone image. I'll post better ones once the room is situated...

Nice job. My next project is a desk for my room. I'll build it into the walls somehow. I'm not good with that kind of stuff and your project gave me some ideas. :)

What are you doing with poison dart frogs????
