Recording Rehearsals

I have an AKG ribbon mic and used it to record band practice. Not sure what is going on, but listening back to the recording I'm getting a "phaser" effect. Really, really noticeable. I have the mic going to a XLR/USB converter into the laptop, and recording with Audacity.

We're a fairly loud rock band, and I'm wondering if the problem is that the ribbon mic is getting bombarded with sound waves from both sides of the mic? I've noticed this before, so I walked to where the mic was placed to hear what we sounded like (love wireless). Sounded fine, no weird effect turned on at the board, but definitely there on playback.

Yes, probably. I use a stereo recorder to record band practices and I sometimes get the same effect just from the guys moving around in front of their amps and stuff. It's only to capture ideas though, so I don't care.
