Recording Old School Marching Snare

I'm not talking about those modern high-tension drum corps snares that are super high pitched. I'm talking about those old style drums that were on slings that were really, really deep in pitch.

I bought one today, and recorded some tracks for my album. I didn't really put much thought into it, I just put up a Fathead a few feet from it at the same elevation (pic below for visual reference...sorry for the clutter). Wanted to really capture that deep sound, didn't want it super hi-fi sounding, so went with the ribbon. I ended up boosting a bit of the highs after the fact, but what I did worked.

Would any of you have done it differently? I'm just asking because there's literally no "guides" on this and this isn't something that gets asked, so I just threw up a mic and called it good. I like what I have, not seeking any sort of justification, just curious to how others might approach this.
