recording in Linux

I have recently discovered and come to love Red Hat 8.0. I have been searching for some recording packages for linux that I could record with and I finially think that I have found some.

Has any one tried any of these?
Are there better programs out there?
I think that I will jump in and try some out.

I tried out most of those.
They compiled fine, but I couldnt get anything to record with them.

Yes I too am gettiing them to compile but I am not getting anything good out of the software so far but I am not throught experimenting yet. James thanks I am on that know
