Recording chourse vs raping verses..... Dynamic/condenser???

Im looking at the sm7b for doing hooks and for the singing. It is a dynamic but my friend said to use a condenser for spitting verse but a dynamic for sining chourse????

And also on a condenser mic what is a " pattern select switch" for
what does it do to the sound ???????

There is no formula or rule for microphones. You use what you think sounds the best. The SM7B is a solid all around choice if you have a preamp that will drive it. Pretty much any preamp is adequate for a condenser as long as it provides phantom power... which pretty much all do.

A microphone's directionality or polar pattern indicates how sensitive it is to sounds arriving at different angles about its central axis

IMO a pattern select switch in low end microphones is a gimmick used to give you the impression of greater value.
