Recommend the best DAW?

Hi,

I'm looking around for a really good used all-in-one DAW. Looking at things like the Yamaha AW16G, Korg D1600, Fostex VF160EX, etc. Any suggestions? In particular, I have some decent outboard gear from my current setup that I'd still like to be able to use via inserts and Aux circuits. Do any of these machines have some insert capability, or is it all very limited, and you can only use the onboard effects? Thanks.

I would use "extreme" caution buying a used DAW. You never know who spilled beer on it. Maybe you can find one in your home town and get a chance to move the sliders around and demo it--maybe even a trade in at a store where you can SEE it and TRY it.

As for quality, most of the DAWS or SIABs with CD capability do a decent job. I use a Yam 2816 and it does a nice job but it does make a tad bit of noise sometimes. If you read through the posts herein, you'll read good and bad about all the units.

So, read up on DAWS and look for articles not advertisements which evaluate a unit.

Shopping around is half the fun.
