Yo Wayne of 1910:

Most recording units let you put the reverb into the cans while recording a DRY vocal. This gives the vocalist a "feeling" of power as he/she can hear the voice with reverb.

When you have recorded the track/vocal and are ready to mix, you have a dry track vocal and can add whatever reverb makes your ears happy.

I have been doing this ever since my first 488 Tascam 8 track.

Right now I use the Yamaha 2816 DAW and do the same thing.

I add reverb for the vocalist while recording; however, the reverb isn't recorded. When I mix down, I add reverb; sometimes I run several mixes using different reverbs and this helps your ears grow in knowledge.

Hope this helps you out and Happy Easter.
