i just went out and got reason. i've been playing around with it and found some cool strings and brass that sound pretty good to me. does anyone know of any drum kits on there that sound fairly realistic?

My opinion is that you need to tweak any kind of sound with Reason to make it sound better (not necessarily more realistic, just better). What I've done one time was to load 3rd party drum samples to get better drum sounds for that particular song.
If you want to use Reason, you must be prepared and willing to spend a lot of time to get the most out of it. Turn that dials!
