Ram: registered vs. unbuffered

Whats the differance? I was told that if you are going to run 1gig or more ram in your pc that it should be registerd/buffered type. And im assuming you cant mix, unless your motherboard excepts this.

It is your motherboard that defines if it is possible at all. Registered ram needs an extra clockcycle, so the memory controller has to support it and needs to be set by the bios. And no, you cannot mix both types.
