quick poweramp question

just a quick question:
as i dont have much money left, can i use my hi-fi power amp with the tone controls set flat to drive reference monitors, and get decent results?
or do i need a dedicated unit?
and would a 160 Watts power amp be good to drive a 100 W (or less) speaker? thanks a lot!

yeah, its actually better to use a power amp thats rated above your speakers because its usually power amp clipping from cranking the amp that blows speakers.
With a louder amp you can get clean power all the way to the limits of the speakers handling.... just use your own discretion with loud levels and you should be fine.
