Questions on Digi 001

Just got a Digi 001 system (for real cheap)- have a few questions on it before I install it, if someone can help:

The protools version is 5.1.1. I have Windows XP, so I need to upgrade, correct? It looks like I need 6.1 or higher. It doesn't look like a free download, so if I need to pay how much is it?

My system has 256 ram, can I survive with this, or do I need the minimum 384 to run 16 tracks?
 
yeah, you'll probably need to get at least 6.1...but if you're going to pay to upgrade I'd say get the 6.4 version. and yeah, you'll need more RAM if you want to do any big tracking or mixing. check here for the suggested requirements you'll need for the 001:

as far as how much it will cost for you to upgrade to 6.x....you'll have to ask digi about that or look around their site. most updates are free for pro tools except companies generally still charge you for going from versions like 5.x to 6.x
